Novaterra is a country in the Dark Sea. The largest city is New Amsterdam, which serves as a political and economic centre, as well as the second largest unbroken inhabited area on Elysia. As of 3^rd December, 2022, it has a population of 14
Novaterra shares no land or maritime borders with any country. Novaterra is east of Spawn. It is the largest country by land area. Novaterran territory spreads across six islands. Each of the islands have a province on them, that being New Amsterdam, New Ruhr, New Essen, New Manhattan, Chestnutville, and New Seanánville. Novaterra is strict with their aerial territory, with restrictions on their airspace, and a total ban of all aircraft of any kind on New Amsterdam and New Ruhr.
Novaterra is a mutualist anarchy. There is no centralised leadership, however, they are a part of the Elysian Syndicate.

History

Novaterra is one of the oldest countries on the server, with the earliest evidence of a Novaterran state as early as the 29^th of July, 2022. It is a major player in the server history.

Early days

Novaterra was founded by FlopsyMC on the 29^th of July, 2022, on a medium-sized taiga island, later called New Amsterdam. Initially, Novaterra was a one-man nation, but ZeBoss07 joined on the 31^st. ZeBoss07 constructed most of what is now New Amsterdam.
A short while after, a bridge was made connecting to the smaller New Manhattan. FlopsyMC built a house there and several vanilla farms were made, and a mine.
In early August daysant had begin the construction of a gold farm on New Manhattan in an attempt to artificially hyperinflate the Elementian, however these plans never got to materialise. Eventually, the farm was decomissioned due to new mechanics for 1.12.2.

The StevensJax Incidents

The StevensJax Incidents were a series of events caused by StevensJax.

First incident

The first major issue happened on the 1^st of August. StevensJax was settling on the north side of New Amsterdam, directly in the way of the street and a planned bridge. This later resulted in catastrophe, as at roughly at 21:30 (UTC±0), a debate broke out deciding an agreement. During this debate, StevenJax's base was griefed. The next day, ZeBoss07 awoke to find that two houses were destroyed completely and a large obsidian structure (privated with signs) was constructed by StevensJax. This was reported to Neil, who banned StevensJax for a week, however she was the only one banned in this situation.

Second incident

After being unbanned, StevensJax rejoined the server on the 17^th and poured water over the NSR terminus' redstone wiring. This was reported to Silvesteer, who banned StevensJax for one month. However while reviewing evidence, StevensJax burned the belongings of daysant, leading to this ban being extended indefinitely. However, during the discussion, the events of the discussion on the 1^st were brought up again, leading to FlopsyMC being banned for a week, from 17/08/22 to 24/08/22.

World War One

Novaterra was one of the important countries to partake in World War One. There was a white peace, so Novaterra did not gain or lose anything.

Age of Information

Following World War One, Novaterra had many resources. daysant had decided that it would be worthwile investing into the newly added OpenComputers mod. They created the Novaterran Electronics Company to manage such.

Electronic banking

An electronic banking system is in current development by daysant.

Teletext and the NBC

In early November, the development of OC-Teletext began, which was a method used to broadcast text to compatible computers. A subsidiary of the NEC was created, the Novaterran Broadcasting Company. The system went live in late November.

World War Two

On 12/2/2023, New Melbourne had declared independence from Novaterra as Westportia. Although ZeBoss07 had allowed independence on the condition that FlopsyMC, the leader, did not declare war on anyone, FlopsyMC had broken the deal and thus breaking this deal.
FlopsyMC shortly after gave leadership over to xClavice, and daysant had annexed New Melbourne back into Westportia.

Transition to Anarchism

On the 1^st of May, 2023, the EPWF had run in the elections, but was defeated.
On the 14^th, Daysant (de facto leader of the EPWF), called a vote of no confidence, claiming ZeBoss was not fit to rule due to his GCSEs, and going against the people. The vote passed 3 to 1.
On the 19^th, XClavice won the election with the intention of giving Daysant presidency after. He did so three days later. Daysant immediately set up the Elysian Syndicate.

Economy

Novaterra is an economic and industrial superpower. It has a monopoly over many things such as machining and information technology.
It is the largest importer and exporter of goods in Elysia. The Novaterran economy primarily focuses by importing raw materials (such as iron or gold) and processing them into utilities, machines, or other goods (such as trains or computers).
Novaterra has been criticised for its poor handling of pollution in New Ruhr.

Currency

The currency of Novaterra is the Novaterran Pound, symbol £. It is based on the diamond, initially being set to an exchange rate of £100 beong equal to a stack of (64) diamonds.
It comes in denominations of £1, £2, £5, £10, £20, £50, £100, £200, £500, and £1000.

Design

Its design is based primarily on the British Pound Sterling. On the left is a semi-transparent white window, with binary in a certain colour down the middle. Golden binary, is the face value, whereas orange binary is the face value times by 100.
On the top-right is the Roman numeral for the denomonation's value.
Most colour is based on the Bank of England notes, but the £100 note is based on the Bank of Scotland, £200 is based off the Euro, and £500 and £1000 are based off Monopoly money. The £1, £2, and £100 notes are based off old notes issued by the Bank of England, discontinued in 1988, 1821, and 1943 respectively.

Infrastructure

Novaterra has high-quality transport infrastructure. It is the home and base of operations for the Greater Elysian Railways. Novaterra holds a duopoly on locomotive transport, together with ARC.
New Amsterdam has free, public electricity running on an MV network from Immersive Engineering, and free internet connection to all eligible houses. New Ruhr has industrialised, lower capacity LV network for machining. Overall Novaterra has the highest electricity consumption out of any country.

Technology

Novaterra stands as the sole manufacturer and manager of electronic goods including networking, the Internet, electronic banking, news broadcasting, and hardware. The NTC is based in New Amsterdam.

Politics

Novaterra is a mutualist anarchy. Nobody can hold power over anyone else, however Novaterrans do elect a diplomat and an emergency governor.
The diplomat serves as foreign affairs, while emergency governor getd authority over goods and production during a time of crisis.

Etymology

Novaterra comes from the Latin words nova (new) and terra (ground). Literally translated, it means "new ground".
